The great aim of education is not knowledge, but action

When we start thinking about education, the best way to start from the history of appearance of this word. It is known that word “education” goes back to Latin, where it meant “reveal”, “expose”, “bring to the light”. When we know history of the word we can better understand method of education that Greek philosopher Socrates offered.
Socrates told that veritable knowledge is inside of every person. We can cognize or recollect it only with the help of suitable education.
According to his theory teacher had to pose to its students questions that can reveal and expose natural aptitude of pupil to think, reason and take part. Students observed, researched, applied knowledge they got in their life and made discoveries. What a nice philosophic theory!
Modern system of education doesn’t have anything in common with that one which existed in times of Socrates. The fact that this system destroys thinking and understanding of students and their ability to find patterns of relationship also doesn’t take into account. A NATIONAL MOVEMENT
A 1990 study by fifteen of the nation’s largest youth organizations found that the United States has done poorly in solving the problems affecting today’s youth. There was broad agreement that the number-one solution to these problems was . . . better parents. As a result of their findings, the final report calls for a massive increase in parent education.
President Bush then released a statement of six national goals for education. The number-one goal states that “by the year 2000, all children in America will start school ready to learn.” To attain this goal “parents will have access to the training and support they need.”
President Bush’s comments represent a movement in thinking which places more value on the importance of a parent’s role in preparing children for school and life. It is encouraging to see that there is a growing awareness that families need support and education . . . in order to strengthen parents’ skills and prevent future problems.

Taking A Stand – Health Care, Education, And Economy

I believe with strong leadership, hard work and a dedication to problem solving, we can improve the lives of our society and create a new vision for Northern Virginia.
The Economy
There is an enormous need to improve the economic climate within our communities throughout northern Virginia. Thousands of families throughout NOVA are struggling to afford the expenses associated with life, including childcare. To help families within NOVA I support President Obama’s strategy to expand the child and Dependent Care Tax Credit to help provide relief for parents and care givers. Currently only 35 percent of the first $3,000 incurred from childcare expenses by a family with one child and a family with two or more children the first $6,000. The credit is not refundable, therefore upper-income families unreasonably benefit while families that earn less than $50,000 a year obtain less than a third of the tax credit. I advocate reforming the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit to ensure low-income families to receive more credit for their child care debuts.
Additionally, it is imperative that we create training programs for clean technologies.
I advocate for additional funding to expand federal job training programs to include green technologies training, like advanced manufacturing and weatherization training. This type of job training program will help fuel our economy and create sustainable green jobs.

PARENTING
Parenting is a great experience of joy, laughter and fun as it helps one to passionately re-live and experience wonderful moments of childhood. But it is demanding as well and even more so with lack of certain skills.
If parents choose to help their child with emotional development and life skills such as love, trust, confidence, self esteem, empathy alongside their education, then it might be useful for the parents to continuously enhance their knowledge and skills to fulfil their obligation in a much more resourceful way.
As parents, one is seen as the immediate role model by the child. A child feels secured when their parents understand their feelings through the connection of love which establishes trust in the child’s mind. The child becomes more comfortable and is open to express his feelings in times of discomfort. Consequently, the child uses those lessons as a basis of reference to build relationships with others.
But how often do you feel, as parents, that you really want to enrich the lives of your child with proper nutrition/skills but you feel that you are limited in resources or just feel helpless in coping with certain demands or attitude of your child?
